Sunflowers (Cycles) was created during a time of illness, when Amelia received sunflowers as a gift. As the flowers naturally began to wilt and fade, her reflections deepened on themes of life, death, recovery, and relapse—cycles of both growth and decay. Using nearly 1,000 sunken “stigmas” from the sunflower discs, Amelia crafted intricate, spiraling patterns that, like the flowers themselves, would eventually shrink and wither. In this work, the transient beauty of the sunflowers mirrors the fragile cycles of both plant and human life.
