OBSESSION FOR PERFECTION

Obsession for Perfection, 2017/18, uses endurance performance art to highlight the insanity of perfectionism which can manifest within oneself, as well as the often veiled facets of mental health inhabited within 21st century culture. Through engagement in ritualistic behaviours, it is an attempt to visualise the perfectionist’s attitude towards fulfilling unachievable goals which demand increasing mental and physical drain. Materiality is also a key focus of Obsession For Perfection with rice grains representing eating disorders, a penny coin hinting at depression and coloured beads a latent manifestation of children’s mental health issues. Each performance lasted up to five days.
